Hotel Sunshine

If you are going to be traveling you will probably need to find a hotel to stay at while you are away from home.  After all, you will want to make your trip as enjoyable as possible.  But before you can book a hotel, you will first need to know how you can find them.  And even then, you will have to make a decision as to what hotel is best for your personal situation

Tipping Hotel Personnel

If you are going to be staying at a hotel you may want to keep some spare bills on hand so that you can tip hotel personnel.  One thing is for sure though; if you do not want to tip hotel personnel you do not have to.  But when it comes down to it, it is nice if you give somebody a few dollars that went the extra mile in helping you out.  You are not obligated, but as a hotel guest it is usually the right thing to do.

Who should I Tip?

When it comes to giving tips to hotel staff and personnel, you need to make a decision as to who you will give the money to.  Generally speaking, there are some people you will tip as well as some who never expect it. For example, if a bell boy helps you to take your luggage to your room you may want to give them a tip.  The same goes for a doorman or somebody who brings your car around to the front of the hotel for you.  On the other side of things, there are other people such as maids and front desk staff who do not expect tips.  They are not in the position to do anything for you that warrants a tip, so all in all they are usually left out of this process.

How Much to Tip?

Now that you know who to tip, the next question is how much.  This is something that you will have to decide on your own as every person and situation is quite different.  You would tip a bell boy who carries one bag to your room much less than one who carries four or five; this is just the way that the industry is.  But as a guest, you have the right to give as much money as you please as a tip.  If you are feeling generous or have been taken care of in an extra special way, leaving a tip that is a bit larger than the ordinary is not a bad idea.

Overall, tipping hotel staff and personnel is a great way to show your appreciation.  You are not under any obligation to tip anybody who helps you out, but the majority of people do undertake this practice.
